Greater Goods founder Jaimus Tailor runs free workshop

Recently, Jaimus Tailor, founder of Greater Goods, ran a free workshop for our volunteers.

“Nothing into Something” is the ethos upon which the design project, Greater Goods, was created by Jaimus in 2018. And sure enough, that’s exactly what happened when he and his talented team ran a workshop where nothing but recycled materials were turned into amazing bags!

“I've lived in the area my whole life,” Jaimus told us. “I'm now based in Arnos Grove with my studio a short cycle from Wood Green.” He explained he’d been wanting to work with the food bank for a while so decided to host a fun workshop for volunteers on sewing basics.

“For this workshop, we pulled together lots of surplus offcuts in our studio, which consisted of ski jacket linings as well as cotton twill fabric that we have been using recently for a charity project. We also dug into our archive of patterns and decided to use 3 different designs: a drawstring bag, a bottle bag and cross-body bag. All the patterns were super simple and good for beginners, so we let participants choose whichever design caught their eye. The main focus of this workshop was to have some fun and learn a bit of sewing, I feel just having time for creative freedom with no expectations is essential.”

Greater Goods spans from outdoor fashions to practical accessories by upcycling reclaimed, damaged, and unwanted products.

“We saw some good outcomes and a few tangled sewing machines, but it was a fun evening workshop and I'm looking forward to the next one.”

Not only that, but Greater Goods also generously donated 11 warm jackets.

A huge thanks to Jaimus, Dan, Sam, Paula and Canaan from everyone here at Bounds Green Food Bank.
